Freshwater/Marine Modeling

Project Details
Organisation(s) involved: The City of Cape Town, University of Cape Town (Climate Systems Analysis Group), PDR and the Danish Government Development Funding (Danida).
Project Objective/ Description: As a coastal City, the marine environment provides a key service to the City as a receiving environment for freshwater run-off and stormwater discharge.

Burgeoning development and the attendant increases in the built environment within the City has resulted in an increase in run-off which places increased pressure on the City’s stormwater systems as well as its catchments.  The City must begin to investigate and understand the potential combined effects of coastal storm surges, mean sea level rise and increased freshwater and stormwater flow.
