In collaboration with the Department of Rural Development and Land Affairs, the Adaptation Network presented a training workshop in East London on 14 & 15 May 2014. The workshop was entitled Practical Adaptation for Vulnerable Groups, and was facilitated by Noel Oettle of Environmental Monitoring Group (EMG) and Shannon Parring of Indigo development & change. Siyabonga Myeza of EMG provided logistical support.
The workshop was highly subscribed, and 48 participants from Department of Rural Development & Land Reform, Amathole District Municipality, Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Woman Energy and Climate Change Forum, South African Local Government Association, Earth Life Africa, Oxfam, Gender CC and Rhodes University attended the full two days of the workshop.
The programme included an overview of current climate science and predictions, and introduced methodologies for facilitating sustainable adaptation. The process was spiced with a rich mix of interactive exercises. The participants and facilitators created a vibrant atmosphere which kept all motivated and in high spirits. The workshop evaluation provided very positive feedback, and encouraged the Adaptation Network to find resources to present similar workshops in the future.
